State Route 27 Slope Stabilization

Notice of Preparation of a Draft Environmental Impact Report
State Route-27 Slope Stabilization Project

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 7 intends to prepare an Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Assessment (EIR/EA) for a State Route-27 (SR-27) Slope Stabilization Project, approximately from postmile 1.0 to approximately postmile 1.13, in lower Topanga Canyon between the City of Malibu and the Community of Topanga, within Topanga State Park. The goal is to stabilize the slope above to prevent rocks from falling onto the roadway, blocking the road, and potentially injuring motorists. Caltrans is the lead agency under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the lead agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The existing environment and impacts to the existing environment are factors in the decision-making process during the selection of the preferred alternative. Various environmental resources and facilities are known to occur within the limits of the study area. Additional information is also available at www.sr27topangacanyon.com
